Interview Lutz Remer

Debt Capital Markets Director

“Boldly Building Together means fostering a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and strategic decisions are made with confidence and clarity.”

Lutz, when, and more importantly, why did you join Egeria?
I joined Egeria in September 2022 after spending over 10 years in the banking sector. What attracted me to Egeria and this role was the entrepreneurial environment and the opportunity to make a greater impact than I ever could as a banker. Now, I’m closer to the companies I support, actively helping them grow by optimizing their financing strategies and tailoring solutions to meet their unique needs.

So now you are a Debt Capital Markets Director, what does that role bring to the Private Equity team?
As Debt Capital Markets Director, I’m responsible for securing financing for our portfolio companies and new transactions. Throughout the investment lifecycle, I focus on optimizing financing structures in response to changes, whether driven by M&A activities or unexpected developments.

I bring specific financing and structuring expertise to the team, leading the financing process with an Egeria mindset and ensuring that each deal’s unique requirements are aligned with our standard practices. I work closely with the investment team and the management teams of our portfolio companies to ensure alignment and effective execution.
Additionally, I maintain a broad network of (potential) lenders and advisors, always seeking opportunities to enhance both new and existing financing arrangements.

What is an average day like for you?
My role is highly dynamic, with each day bringing a diverse range of responsibilities. I focus on strategic discussions, both internally and externally, ranging from deal structuring sessions and strategic planning to in-depth financial analysis. I also engage with key stakeholders, including lenders and advisors, to discuss financing solutions and drive critical transactions.

A significant part of my work involves partnering with the management teams of our portfolio companies, providing guidance on financing decisions to support their growth ambitions. While I’m primarily based in Amsterdam, I regularly spend time at our Munich office to maintain collaboration across the organization.

Not every Private Equity firm has this position, but Egeria does. What does that say about Egeria?
Although my role is becoming increasingly common within other private equity firms, the decision by Egeria to create and invest in such a position reflects a clear commitment to enhancing value across its portfolio. It demonstrates a recognition of the strategic importance of specialized expertise in driving improvements, supporting growth, and creating sustainable competitive advantages.

What are the joys and challenges in your work?
What makes my work both enjoyable and challenging is the need to manage multiple responsibilities at once. It requires taking ownership, maintaining a strategic perspective, and effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders. I thrive on solving complex problems, driving initiatives forward, and achieving meaningful results – that is what keeps me going.

Here at Egeria we say “Boldly Building Together”. How does that reflect in your work?
Boldly building together is at the core of my work as Debt Capital Markets Director. It means fostering a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and strategic decisions are made with confidence and clarity. I work closely with my colleagues, portfolio companies, and key stakeholders to drive performance, identify growth opportunities, implement innovative solutions, and challenge the status quo.

What do you invest in your work?
In my work, I invest not just my skills and expertise, but a deep sense of commitment and personal ownership. I pour my energy into understanding the bigger picture, ensuring that every decision I make contributes to Egeria’s (portfolio companies) long-term growth and success.

What motivates me is the opportunity to collaborate with talented people, build strong relationships, and knowing that our work can make a real impact.
