In 2024, EgeriaDO entered into a three-year partnership with the Baby Supplies Foundation (Stichting Babyspullen) to support the development, implementation, and rollout of a new online sharing platform.
Stichting Babyspullen believes that every child deserves a fair start in life, regardless of the financial situation they are born into. An empty crib, an empty wardrobe, no cuddly toys to snuggle with, and no toys to play with—every day, 35 babies are born into poverty in the Netherlands. The first 1,000 days of life lay the foundation for the rest of a child’s development, determining their opportunities in life. This includes the growth and formation of vital organs, brain development, and bonding with parents.
The foundation supports (expecting) parents living in poverty by providing baby starter kits. These kits help relieve part of the stress and worry for parents, giving babies and young children a more equal start in life. The starter kits are composed of both new and gently used baby items and include clothing and essential care products such as bottles, bedding, and hot water bottles. These kits are a concrete, immediately effective intervention that has a positive impact on families.
The goal is to launch an online sharing platform that connects donors and recipients to facilitate the exchange of larger and essential baby items. Currently, many large items such as cribs, strollers, and car seats (Maxi-Cosi) are offered but often cannot be accepted or distributed due to logistical constraints. This platform will enable local exchange, helping to reduce the ecological footprint.
The first three years of the project will focus on development, implementation, optimization, and promotion. The impact of this platform lies at the intersection of poverty alleviation, sustainability, and social participation.
With the support of EgeriaDO, Stichting Babyspullen can develop, implement, and launch this new online sharing platform across the Netherlands.
